That's it for me. In one for or another (and I am sure it will grow and evolve in new directions), for better or worse, I'm here for good.

As Big Social Media gobbled up the Web I rather lost the enthusiasm I had during the early days of the Internet (other life events didn't help) but the Fediverse has got the fire back in my belly again.

I’m glad I’m here, but I do hate that most of my tech questions are answered at the other place when I search.

That's largely down to the way search engines, especially Google (who now have an AI deal with Reddit, so an incentive to push people there), promote Reddit answers.

Also Lemmy hasn't been around as long, so doesn't have the same depth of the knowledge base but it isn't short on techie users. If you don't need an instant answer then ask here and you will probably get an answer pretty quickly. Plus you will help expand the depository of answers here.

At least now I can find lemmy posts results on duckduckgo. Before there was only...

Its fucking Discord for me. Why are so many things hosted there???

I was getting into Balatro Modding. The Discord had tons of mods while my usual go-to site was dead.

That's sad. I guess you already know about !balatro@lemm.ee ?

Same here .... but then again, if I need answers to tech questions, I'll go research content there, don't interact and figure out my solutions with their information.

Then go on Fediverse to talk to people and interact with the world.

Have you tried looking for answers here? I asked a few a while ago, always got very insightful answers.

[–] JohnSmith@feddit.uk 6 points 2 years ago

This is the way. The more we ask and answer here the better for us all.

Same :) I escaped during the big modwars exodus. First to Kbin, then when that dissapeared I found Mbin, and when that collapsed I found this Fedia server that seems stable so far. It's a pain to have to make a new profile every time but it's worth it to never have to go back to the evil eye.

Always proud to be here, since the momentous mod and API protest days at the orangered site, but we still have work to be done, including fostering discussion and quality fannish content beyond the bounds of the Western part of our globe.

Oh yeah, we are indeed in a sort of calm-before-a-storm moment regarding the Internet itself, as if the proverbial storm, as Emperor pointed out, is now big tech companies and their corporate cohorts, against a cache of genuine humanity at hand.
