Some of you here, and on other servers, post on particular topics, like Celtic culture, Linux, cardiovascular health. But most microblogging applications, like Mastodon, lack engagement. People who read your posts don't see follow-up discussions, either because they are unaware there is a discussion, or because, given the nature of the Fediverse, their server doesn't receive all the related posts.

Imagine if you were able to set up a "digital campfire" as a supplement where you can dive deep into discussions, answer questions, and engage with your readers about your passion and interest, where everyone can see all the interactions.

This is what Fediverse applications like PieFed, Lemmy, and MBIN provide (Reddit alternatives). They allow you to create focused communities dedicated to your passions and interests.

These platforms are also federated, connecting with other Fediverse apps for wider reach.

Ready to create and moderate a digital campfire? You can set up a community on my PieFed server at https://feddit.online or a different server more suited to your liking. You can then invite your readers to join and engage. While there, you might find other communities to join. There are tons of them.

It sounds like you're on a Twitter knock off, and you'd enjoy the reddit knockoff version of Lemmy....

I don't know why. But lots of people posting under their real names keep posting to this sub, but don't seem to understand how easy it is to get what you want

You do t need a "digital campfire" just stop using the twitter version of Lemmy.

IIRC this is from the guy who runs fedia.io and helped found mBin - for some history, fedia.io was around the same time as kbin.social - and a lot of folks jumped to fedia when kbin.social was having cloudflare issues and not able to federate back in June or July 2023.

So, he knows the lemmyverse well.

I think what we really need is an associated #chat app, like #XMPP to allow people to break off in real time. It's no accident that #Matrix is so well used

I am interested in new technical possibilities that enable a more intensive, focussed exchange. It just has to be very easy for me to use because I have no technical affinity. Terms like PieFed, Lemmy, MBIN, #XMPP or #Matrix unfortunately mean nothing to me, sorry! ๐Ÿ™ˆ

The terms are equivalent to "Mastodon" in that they are just the names of the applications that provide the ability to create and manage communities.

I'm here if you have questions.

The widely used app. Dino and gajim(windows as well) on Linux. Well, great conversations like WhatsApp you can use out of box. No need for tech exp.

This reads like an advertisement. Idk if it is, but, it sounds like it. "Are you tired of this problem, boy do I have a solution for you"

Thank you for the invitation to light a digital campfire on feddit.online. I will take the opportunity to familiarise myself with this new platform!

@Jerry@hear-me.social Why did you choose PieFed instead of Lemmy or Mbin (Kbin fork)? I'm yet to try PieFed.

[-] jerry@my-place.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

@Jerry@hear-me.social @ml@mitexleo.one PieFed is written in Python/Flask which is a technology that I can eventually use to contribute to the project. Also, I'm a fan of having multiple applications on the Fediverse and so was interested in standing up a server to help it.
