I feel like there should be honorable mentions for garlic, which is neither a spice nor an herb, and MSG which is just a chemical.
Those are my best cooking friends.

another honorable mention to the maillard reaction, browning/searing food does a ton of heavy lifting
I've been trying to find MSG, can't find it at any of the grocery stores near me. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, it should be with spices and salt right?

I’m glad you think so. My French toast never comes out right but maybe I need more garlic. Or should I put cinnamon on the list?
but wtf are you doing making French toast with garlic? Also I can make a sick vegsn frwnch toast with chick pea batter if anyone is interested.
Forgot the /s. Definitely share that recipe. Chick peas are amazing but I’ve never heard of making French toast with them. Spices are so vast, making a top five is really just about what’s in my nose and on my palate. Cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, coffee, brown sugar. There’s another five.
Cumin
:volcel-kamala:
It's pronounced different
Kyumin, huh? Nice excuse, you ain't foolin no one.
yeah it's pronounced coomin'
No wonder the clerk looked at me odd when I asked which aisle had cumin /jk
yeah yeah, save it for the volcel vanguard

Ginger
Posh
I think that's their prominence in terms of actual use in my family at least.
Cinnamon at the top? Dang. It's an easy top 5 in use for me but never a 1
To be fair this is heavily biased by my toddler liking it a lot and wanting it in things. Absent their insistence it would probably be number 3 or 4.
I fucking loved cinnamon even more as a kis than I do now, I kinda ruined it for myself between and stopped eating as much between ages 8 and 12, then I was right back on. Cinnamon does rule.
No order:
Smoked Paprika
Allspice
Sichuan Chili
Mint Leaf
Citric Acid Powder
There's finally an Asian grocery store in my town that has Sichuan chilli's and I'm hyped to finally work with some. Smoked paprika barely missed the list, mint would also make top 10
I love all of my spice cabinet equally, I genuinely would not be able to rank them. They are all delicious in their own way.
lets talk blends
