Does lemmy have some sort of time-elapsed-since-post increasing, front-page-relevancy decreasing attribute? (sh.itjust.works)

Whenever I visit lemmy, many of the posts are days old. Is that a lack of content being created by me and the other users, or... What? Thanks for any insight

I sort by new.

The site defaults to sorting by active posts. There are options for hot, new, and top over the past day. I tend to sort by new.
