As the senators explained:

The EDGE Shelf helps Kroger gather and exploit sensitive consumer data. Through a partnership with Microsoft, Kroger plans to place cameras at its digital displays, which will use facial recognition tools to determine the gender and age of a customer captured on camera and present them with personalized offers and advertisements on the EDGE Shelf. EDGE will allow Kroger to use customer data to build personalized profiles of each customer... quickly updating and displaying the customer’s maximum willingness to pay on the digital price tag—a corporate profiteering capability that would be impossible using a mere paper price tag.

That's pretty fucked

Living near a large city center, I have multiple grocery options. But people in small towns often have a single grocery store and then one or more dollar stores. This will significantly impact their ability to shop frugally, but I have no doubt that the majority of them will find a way to blame Democrats for it despite the majority of them continually voting against their best interest and choosing candidates from the party whose mission is to put every last red cent possible into their billionaire benefactors' hands.

If that shit rolls out here I'm switching where I shop to the next town over.

Maybe if I grimace into every camera in the store I can get a discount on my groceries.

I simply no longer shop at Kroger brand stores and moved on. They can keep throwing it all away in their locked bins outside. Half the time the stuff on the shelves was expired and even after being told they didn’t care.

I'm very concerned for kroger's infrastructure investment here... I'd be devastated if someone here could explain a simple and more "passive" way to incapacitate this technology as we shop?

Post-it notes over camera lenses. Not destructive. Not illegal.

Maybe a clear tape since that's more subtle and it'll still mess up the focus so everything will appear blurry.

What do you think captialism even is?

That's what I'd like to know, too. This should to absolutely zero surprise.
