On firefox for Android, if you installed "Google search fixer" addon, it causes browser to freeze when interacting with images in Google search. Someone please report this to mozilla. Using the android browser without that addon is almost impossible.

Because I don't know how to. I barely managed to post it here lol.

This is a known issue and was reported by someone else on the project's GitHub previously.

The developer of addon seems to be inactive. Firefox android is doomed for me if it isn't fixed.

Why not use a different search engine?

[–] Patrick1@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

The search results are bad?

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.de 4 points 2 years ago

They're unlikely to be (significantly) worse than what you get from Google nowadays.

I understand having a preference but I don't think they're that far apart myself. I use DDG mostly and find everything relatively easily

But like, why does it have to be Google? (Or this extension specifically?)

If you're super attached to the google search results then try startpage. If you're willing to branch out a bit try Duckduckgo, it's based on Bing instead and lately seems like more folks prefer Bing's engine to Google's.

And as others have mentioned you could use any old useragent switcher to pretend to be Chrome

What exactly is the advantage the addon provides?

[–] density@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

Apparently it fixes google. no wonder the dev gave up on it.

What this addon does exactly? I did read the extension page, but it does not tell.

Override the user-agent string presented to Google Search pages to receive the search experience shown to Chrome on Firefox for mobile / tablet.

can't you just manually edit the user agent in the about:config menu and achieve the same result?

[–] igorlogius@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

maybe, if you can edit about:config

[–] glacier@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

about config menu is only on FireFox Beta and Nightly

[–] Monologue@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 years ago

yeah, fennec also has it

I tried this and the issue still persists, seems like something from Google side. I am now skeptical if the addon developer or mozilla can do anything about this :(
