I guess homeschooling can be a temporary option if a kid for one reason or another is between schools. I don't think it is generally a good idea on a more permanent basis though as a very important part of schooling is socialisation that is almost impossible to do, even in collaboration with other homeschooling parents. Kids needs to be with other kids and the other kids are at school.

There is also a reason why teaching is a profession you have to study for years before they'll let you do it. It actually takes skill and knowledge to do well.

There is also a rich history of homeschooling being used by various sorts of crazy and abusive people to isolated their children from the outside world.

You can and should raise many criticisms of public schools but the remedy is not homeschooling.
