Scapegoating Jews has existed for as long as Jews have
Especially because 'scapegoat' comes from a Jewish animal sacrifice (or in this case lack thereof) in the Old Testament (Leviticus 16).
The Jews are a tried and true “other”, super convenient to blame us for all sorts of shit.
And it's scary how long since of the stereotypes against us persist. The"Jews love money" one is over a thousand years old and keeps popping up.
That's because politicians reuse them - iirc local Nazi parties had greater share of votes in German town/regions where there had been some medieval pogrom back then.
Do you think the US is a white supremacist nation?
What happens if I say yes?
Edit - apparently nothing at all
I'm American and don't think everyone here is white supremacist, but there's a frightening amount of white supremacy. There are also a lot of people who, while not racist themselves, don't see the problem because it doesn't affect them.
a group of people who are common enough that everyone knows one, but different enough that it's easy to other them and rile people up against them. it's an easy way to gain power, raising up a monster and then telling people that you'll kill it for them. jews make a good monster in predominantly Christian western societies.
As a Jew: They hate us for various reasons. Many date back thousands of years to when Christianity was just becoming the dominant religion in the western world.
For example, Jews were limited in what occupations they could have and Christians weren't allowed to charge interest on loans due to religious restrictions. So Jews became money lenders. They became rich doing this and then the Christians resented the Jews for not only being wealthy, but because they now owed money to Jews. This is where the "Jews only care about money" stereotype came from and it's persisted for over a thousand years. It's also likely that this is part of the origin of the whole "Jews run the world" stereotype. Jews became rich and many powerful people could owe them money so it was imagined that Jews secretly ran the world.
Another reason for the hate is that we won't convert to Christianity. Some evangelicals think that Jesus will only return (and the world end) when Jews run Israel and Jews convert to Christianity. The first is in place, but we stubbornly refuse to convert. Apparently, I'm singlehandedly keeping the apocalypse at bay (you're welcome) and evangelicals hate me for it.
Given Covid19, big tech bros taking over the internet, climate change, and the rise of alt right fascism... I don't think you're doing the best job of halting armageddon. Ngl
But I appreciate the effort.
I'm only responsible for holding back the "Jesus returns and throws everyone into hell" apocalypse. I can't be held responsible to all the other apocalypses. (It's in the fine print.)
