MODERATORS
A lot of trans people report this. A bunch of vocal bigots are victims of patriarchy performing loudly while harbouring inner questions they've never addressed. It's like the bigotry is a shield from what lies beneath.
Internalized transphobia is definitely real, but there's also the simple fact that a lot of trans people started out transphobic because almost everyone on the planet was transphobic until like 10 years ago (and most still are).
