Regarding spoilers; Please put "(Spoilers)" in the title of your post if you anticipate spoilers, as we do not currently have a spoiler tag available. If your post contains an image that could be considered a spoiler, please mark the thread as NSFW so the image gets blurred. As far as how long to wait until the post is no longer a spoiler, please just use your best judgement. Everyone has a different idea on this, so we don't want to make any hard limits.
Please use spoiler tags whenever commenting a spoiler in a non-spoiler thread. Most of the Lemmy clients don't support this but we want to get into the habit as clients will be supporting in the future.

I hope this film ends in a way that sets up "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" and brings this series of films back to its originals.
I expect this will be more like "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" but done better, and hopefully setting that up.
I expect they won't because (spoilers for a 50 year old movie) time travel is done in a lot of films at the moment so it will feel cliche, but I think it would be fun to keep the loop.
Given how long each of these movies has taken to make, which while not that long is still kinda long now...By the time they got to it, maybe that would be less of a concern. Tbh I hadn't realized a lot of films had been doing time travel lately, but I also haven't been watching many either.
:::spoiler also wanna feel old for a sec? Looper was 12 years ago.
Edge of Tomorrow was 10 years ago.
It just seems so perfect.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) is a modified Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972), each of which are my favorite in the series.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) & War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) are a much better version of Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973).
By all accounts Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) is going to cover the history of humans first like in Planet of the Apes (1968) but I expect also Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970), but maybe that'll be a second film. Although how amazing would it be if this film ends with a spaceship crash landing.
In either case a retelling of Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) (actually, that is my favorite) is just sitting there. It would work so well. The celebrity aspect, the science vs political aspect, the "human" rights aspect.
Then make a sequel of that and call that "Return from the Escape from the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" - I think a movie title with two times "of the" is ridiculous
