Xbox just died? (hexbear.net)

trump-who-must-go I didn't know that. It led an amazing life, what else can you say? It was an amazing console, whether you agree or not. It was an amazing console that had an amazing life.

Looking at all the Youtube thumbnails in my feed in the past 24 hours, Xbox died somehow. RIP John Halo and Mark Fenix

I feel like Microsoft's games especially their exclusives being terrible has had a lot to do with it. Like if you look at Sony and Nintendo, their exclusive game libraries are full of hits. Nintendo has a sort of niche with their IPs and their handheld games to such an extent that Switch still continues to sell very well. Sony has had some very popular exclusives like Last of Us, God of War, Bloodborne, Spider-man, Final Fantasy 7 remakes, etc. A genre that should have been generic---OFFLINE AAA single player games---have somehow become something Sony delivers especially well on.

Meanwhile Microsoft's stuff have been awful. Their latest exclusives were Redfall and Starfield, both shit games. I don't even remember what they were doing before. Microsoft have fully stratified themselves as rent seeking parasites because of which they are not able to look past producing shit live service games and throwing money at their problems.

I feel if they made actually decent games, which they absolutely could with the money and resources at hand, their hardware would sell better even if the games were released on PC and Steam. But Microsoft are gonna live and die by terrible games.

If Xbox games are terrible, then how am I still playing Gears ~~of War~~ 5 after 4 years? smuglord

Jokes aside, Halo and Gears of War simply aren't what they used to be in the 2000s and 2010s. Halo feels like it has been cut up and reassembled like three times since Bungie already, and while Gears of War still manages feels like Gears of War, turns out that's just not enough for most people outside of a small diehard fanbase.

I'll still keep drinking that garbage

It did get pretty decent reviews overall when it came out, and it has a good amount of different modes to try.

Most people liked the single player campaign even if I thought its dialogue suffered from Marvelitis too much. It's also co-oppable with 3 people, though the third player is stuck playing as a support drone.

There's also a DLC campaign that was pretty fun and also had proper 3-person co-op.

Then you have two different PvE modes. There's the new Escape mode, which is a fun enough way to level your character class cards where you try to rush through labyrinthine levels within a time limit, and the original horde mode, Horde mode where you hunker down in Gears 5's multiplayer maps against 50 waves of enemies with character classes and minor base building elements.

You also have Gears multiplayer which is a bit of an acquired taste. Hope you like shotguns, abusing the cover animation system in a weird way and insults in Spanish.

Gears 5 also had a really annoying battlepass system when it lauched but they've made most skins earnable with ingame currency and made said currency easier to get

As a gears veteran this could not be more accurate (I’ll still drink that garbage tho)

They should include "Gears of War" in the list of Spanish-speaking countries on Wikipedia, it's amazing how popular the franchise is in South America. More than half the people I see in multiplayer are from there

I'm not sure what's wrong with my brain but I've always just liked Gears multiplayer more than any other multiplayer I've played and keep returning to it. I wish Gears 5 was more like Gears 3 though, I loved the maps and weapons in that game. 5's loadout system is mostly completely vestigial since they took out the three starting rifles and the sawed-off shotgun. I rarely used them but I liked the choice being there. Maybe that Gears collection will happen one day and it'll have an updated Gears 3 MP

Also the sawed-off was just a really fun gun

Yeah man I really have no explanation, especially because I’m also Mexican lmfao I don’t know why we love this game so much, but gears was my halo uncontested.

Oh my god are we the same person?

I hate you with the passion of a thousand suns.

While I didn't use them a lot myself, beginner-friendly alternate loadout guns like the Sawed-Off and Retro Lancer gave some of my friends who don't usually gel with Gears' multiplayer a confidence boost that kept them playing Gears 3 so I appreciated them for that reason

My cousin and I grinded Gears 2 Horde mode for like 30 hours in a weekend so we could unlock the golden Retro Lancer skin during the build up to the release of Gears 3. God that was so fun. I loved Gears 3 multi.

One of my friends bought the PC port of Gears 1 just to unlock one of the Chrome starter weapon skins to complete the set. Can't remember where the other ones came from. And yes, Gears 3 was insanely fun. I somehow had some ludicrous TDM K/D ratio, like 4 or something. Ahh, so much hatemail and accusations of having a modded controller wholesome

They are generic. A good chunk of Sony releases is just versions of Assassin's Creed. Most just don't care, they eat the slop anyway.

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 9 months ago

Which ones are you talking about? I think Spider-man is somewhat assassin's creed like but I can't think of anything else.

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 4 points 9 months ago

Horizon is even closer to the formula with the "find towers (longnecks) to reveal more icons on the map, then do more boring fetch quests for other boring characters with your boring character" thing.
