Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

First time in a month my Friday night D & D group is playing. I'm DM'ing a homebrew campaign I created on various adventures I've played over the last 48 years.
Had to go through my notes today and adjust a few things.
Why the hiatus? We're all adults with lives of our own.
Our biweekly game that I DM became monthly and then just sort of stopped last year. It felt like folks had other priorities and I took it a bit harder than I should've. It's crazy how much time and thought you can put into a homebrew campaign that centers players' stories
Plus no one ever wants to DM. :D
I've been with this group for 7 years, will be 8 in January.
This is only the second time I've DM'D. Not because I don't want to, we have a person dedicated to the role and he's pretty good. I'm doing this to give him a break and give the other players, who are all much younger, a look at what old school AD&D was like while playing modern rules.
Also, I've never considered myself a very good DM.
You're probably pretty good! If you're looking for some guides and perspective, check out matt colville's running the game series on youtube
I quit a campaign earlier this year that I ran for 4 years. Just got burnt out, and some of the newer players were rude people who didn't appreciate it.
I love DMing! I get to drive story, I can be any class, I can strategize, and I get to use creativity. It’s a fun time!
I’m a forever DM because I love DMing. I’m also a systems addict which I’ve found to be very contrary to most ttrpg players. We’re out there you just gotta find the right peeps.
