If people don't like the idea of Jeffries, there is a petition with half a million signatures on Change.org if people want to sign. I know it probably won't do much, but it might feel more cathartic than dooming on Lemmy. https://www.change.org/p/house-democrats-choose-a-new-speaker

Or better yet, call your representatives and tell them you will primary them in the next cycle if they vote for Schumer or Jeffries for Majority Speakers.

Or call, don't email, don't write, call your newly elected representative you voted for and ask them to stand up for new leadership. That's a fuck ton better than signing some internet petition that no one gives two shits about and better than bitching on social media that no one really gives two shits about.

True. I probably should have added that, although there won't be good contact avenues for a lot of them until January. It's something I do semi regularly and forget it's not common practice for everybody else.

Although I think even more effective would be calling your representatives who aren't newly elected and tell them you will primary them in the next cycle if they support Jeffries and Schumer for majority speaker positions.

Yup, however I think giving them a ultimatum about primarying them is going to fall short man.

The person on the phone isn't going to be representative, just a lowest paid staffer there who's heard threats all day every day from Republicans and I doubt they'll take you or anyone of us seriously when you say you're going to primary them unless you actually show them your official registration form and FEC registration. Just be respectful and voice your honest opinion that the leadership sucks and you want them to replaced.

It certainly depends on who you are. If you leave your contact info and they look into it and your registered under the party they will take your threat more seriously. If a couple dozen Dems call after that saying the same thing, they will take your call MUCH more seriously.
