It'd be a pleasant surprise to me if there was more to existence and death than creating your own meaning before going back into non-existence, but that's p much where I land, something like that fake mark twain quote
“I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.”
like idk, that kinda sucks in its own way but at least beings dont suffer after they're gone. still mind-blowing that there even is existence to begin with, and that consciousness can happen like dang. and its cool we got to exist at all (luv u comrades)
in terms of spirituality in general I'm in a weird spot where I simultaneously indulge in it while knowing its fake? I want to believe, even though I don't.
(cw: pet death, grief)
a few days back I saw a cat-sized rectangle of moonlight on the ground in my porch where my cat used to hang out before she passed last month. I sat down and pet a non-existent cat for a bit and said I love you and cried and smiled a bit. I know it wasn't real in any sense, but wouldn't it be nice if it was? and even though I had the strict materialist guy in the back of my head telling me it wasn't real, it let me get a bit of my grief out and feel close to her again for a bit, and I think there's something to that at least.at the very least, I do think there's value in secular spirituality, like the kind of optimistic belief that humanity would come together and reach the stars you can see in those soviet time capsules from the sixties.
or maybe that line of thinking and cultural zeitgeist engenders passivity and destroys the future it seeks to build, idk, im not john philosophy
Doesn't even need the super natural for the dead to haunt us.
