Feels weird to call it retro but I’ve been having a blast with Morrowind lately. 24 years old, so fits with the meme.

I will never forget going to the store in the mall and having Neverwinter nights in one hand, Morrowind in the other and the clerk waking up to ten year old me and saying "wow, great taste." offhandedly. I bought Morrowind that day and had never been so completely lost in a game. I ran around getting killed by everything for weeks!

Great taste indeed

I never played Morrowind but I did love Neverwinter Nights + expansions + community mods (Penultima) to bits.

If and when SkyWind comes out, you should definitely try it. They put so much love in it, it will be the closest thing we experienced back then trying fresh Morrowind for the first time.
Alternatively, just try Morrowind right now, it's a great game.

All depends on whether I can play Skywind on Linux, but thank you for the tip :)

It's basically an elaborate Skyrim mod, so yes

i started this recently on my channel. it's a bit rough, but the openmw modpack helps a lot for someone who doesn't have any nostalgia for it

Yeah I’ve been running OpenMW too. I never played Morrowind when it was new, as a matter of fact the first time I ever booted it up was probably around 2018 or so. I think it was around the time the TES6 teaser trailer was published. I was late to the TES series, I mostly played Halo and stuff back then. Skyrim was my intro, then Oblivion, then Morrowind, then ESO. But Morrowind never clicked for me before, I tried it almost every year but this year is finally the time I’m having a ton of fun with it. No nostalgia for the game, so no rose tinted glasses, it’s a fantastic game.

Does it fix the rng for attacks landing

I put it, Tamriel Revisted, and the Skyrim/Cyrodiil mods on my Steam Deck. Hundreds of hours of wandering around!

I haven’t tried modding Morrowind yet, outside of OpenMW, but my next playthrough I probably will.

Retro is something new made to look old. Vintage is something actually old.

When is the last time you had that level of fun with a more recent game?

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Rimworld gave me the same level of obsession. And it's very new one, came out of early access in 2018, practically yesterday.

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Most recent would be Elden Ring and its DLC but before that, it’s been a long time. Probably 360/PS3 era.

It's one of the greats. I'm about ready for a replay but I think I'm going to wait for Skywind. It's close, I can feel it.
