Idk much about SearXNG. Idk what you just said about Mail, VPN, DNS. Please use simpler terms.

Cool Beans, Debian and its forks are my favourite flavours of Linux.

I have a fleet of Pi’s running services, an old 2014 mac mini running different services booted with Debian, and a Flint 2 with a vaniella install of OpenWRT (it comes with OpenWRT but I flashed it with a clean install), I am hoping to get a 2018 hand me down Mac mini in a few weeks that I will install Debian on; My first pi going down the list is a pi 0 2 that runs crowdsec, port 22 is the SSH port the only things on my LAN that use port 22 for ssh is my firewall and the pi 0 2. On a pi 4 I run Home Assistant OS and it does most of my smart home stuff. On my first pi 5 I have many services I checked out Docker to see whatever was running all I know is there are many things running. The things I have running on there for this conversation I will say are: Caddy, to give my devices and services simple domain names for me to remember and https. Paperless-ngx, it keeps my documents sorted with this I could include CUPS and SCANserjs for my printer/scanner. I have immich, for my photos. I have vaultwarden running to keep my passwords and 2FA things running sadly I still have an iPhone and iPad but even if I was using something else I can sign into Bitwarden with my vaultwarden domain (if it is on one of my vLANs). Than I have SearXNG setup on it with it getting its stuff from a few different search sites. The final two things I will mention is Pi-Hole and unbound this is one of my 2 instances of pihole I use its IP address as one of my DNS, unbound works along with this some how. You will find people arguing adguard home vs pihole all over the place I tried adguard but came back to pihole, any who it is a whole home adblocker that I have set up to block different things on different vLANs. On my second Pi 5 I have Ghost that is running my simple blog, I am in the process of moving it to a VPS because I want it hosted elsewhere. The second pihole runs on this pi as a secondary DNS. Mentioning my VPS I also have my stuff backing up to it every morning, had I looked into the encryption choice I choose I would have gone with something different than age, it does what I want it to do but it is coded in go. On my third and final pi 5 I have it running the GUI raspberry pi os with most of the things uninstalled but I installed Librewolf with some adguard plugin and sponsor host block to block Youtube ads and skip sponsors and it is attached to my TV. Than the 2014 Mac mini I have Debian running to run Jellyfin and the *arr stack. My flint 2 has several different vLANs to keep things apart from things like my IoT vLAN cannot reach into anything other than my Home Assistant (the pi 4). The 2018 Mac Mini I will hopefully be getting soon as a hand me down will replace the TV pi 5 I will install Debian on it and will be able to have the Jellyfin app rather than just using the browser and figure I may figure out how to use the Youtube thing you mentioned or stick with Librewolf I also have a subscription to Nebula I am unsure if I will have to use Librewolf or if there is an app, I am getting the hand me down Mac mini because the pi 5 is not quite strong enough to have replaced everything I used my old AppleTV 4k for. I will likely use HA to create a remote for the TV/Mac mini.

My Flint 2 is a smart router so each of the 5 ports can go to different vLANs, and it can host many different SSIDs that have access different vLANs. It also hosts my VPN so that I can access all my services on my LAN when I am away from my LAN the app I use to access my VPN is wireguard.

EasyDNS hosts my VPS, my domain name, and my email, I use IMAP because POP3 needs to die and I refuse to use exchange! My previous (HostHero) host charged me a boat load of money for unlimited email addresses, because they did not offer a wildcard option so I had to go into cPannel and create a new email address before giving it out, with easydns they have a wild card option so I can create a random email at any time and it forwards to my email which is than sorted into folders. I use a formula of servicename_Saskatchewanslagand3randomnumbers@mydomain.ca, once or twice I used it for extended free trials.

I tried Nextcloud but I feel it tries to do to much and fails at everything, I am sure hosted ones are better but I have only had problems with the self hosted version I would love to find another file server rather than smb or sftp. I have other services for contacts and calendars, not sure which ones. I sadly still use Apple Pages and Numbers because there is no real good app that the Libreoffice stuff on my devices. In the future I plan on replacing my iPhone with either the Motorola phone that can install GraphenOS or I may find something else I am still a few months away from needing a new phone, when I need to replace my iPad I will probably get a Laptop hopefully with a touch screen. I may go with a framework Laptop just so I do not pay for the preinstalled windows and install Debian and because it is upgradeable. I am done with using closed source OS’s and service’s, it is all FOSS going forward (as much as I can).

Sorry if I over explained some points, under explained some points, sorry if you feel I am belittling you with the references I am not meaning to. You can join the https://lemmy.world/c/selfhosted group for learning more things.
