In the 90s in Half-Life you kill a lot of US soldiers who are portrayed as illiterate goons who can't do anything except murder. Except in the German version where that's censored.
Reactions would be a lot worse now though. I blame social media and the rage it incentives.
I think it's because they aren't really the "US Army" but rather a unit that are specialized specifically for situations like Black Mesa. Them being called HECU (Hazardous Environmental Combat Unit?)
So like a fake faction.
