First thing I do anytime I purchase a vehicle is to remove the dealership decal... I should do this with my clothes as well.

The amount of dealership license plate frames I see on cars blows my mind. I could see someone not wanting to put forth the effort in properly removing the decals, for fear of damaging their pant job, but the plate frame is a no-brainer.

I’ve taken mine off and they put a new one on next maintenance

that made me angry just to read. I would never be back if someone did that to me.

heat gun, blow dryer or a hot summer day makes the badge adhesive soft and easy to pull off..

I honestly can’t believe it’s legal. It would be like if Target opened up all your kids toys and put Target logos on the toy inside. The car comes wrapped with plastic and protective things all over them. They literally remove that and stick their own fucking logo on them.

[–] SomethingBurger@jlai.lu 14 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's completely legal because the dealership owns the car. Same with Target, they could do that if they wanted to.

[–] tyler@programming.dev 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Owning it has nothing to do with it. It’s legal because there’s not a law against it. Just because you own something doesn’t mean you can do anything you want with it if you intend to sell it. You can’t put poison in it, you can’t sell asbestos. There’s tons of regulations about what you are allowed to do to products sold.

For now, anyway 😮‍💨🫩😭

Well, yeah...

Dude, save those big brain ideas for small talks. Don't give those silly managers ideas to keep them employed.

You've got upper management written all over you!

You can just tell the dealer not to put anything on the car. No stickers, no plate frames... You have the right to say "no".

[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

And they have a right to tell you "sure thing, we'll get that removed" and conveniently leave it out of the contract and tell you "oh, sorry, remove it yourself."

And then you leave them a bad review and it stays there for a week and the owner replies saying they're sowwwy and then Google removes your review.

[–] ScoopMcPoops@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Then refuse the sale??? Ive done this every time and it has always worked. Sure they get huffy and puffy about it, but when you tell them that they won't get the sale unless they remove it, they'll comply.

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I've never had an issue. New or used.

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I just bought my fifth car new and none of them have had any dealership info on them. I say "Don't put any identifiers on the car," and they say "Sure," which implies to me they're not willing to lose a sale over something so stupid.

[–] SmoothLiquidation@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In my state the dealerships don’t glue their logos to your car, only give you the license plate cover. The first time I bought a car somewhere else I asked them to take it off before they gave it to me. The guy gave me a look but did it anyway, but it was gone when I got possession.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

They used to pin metal logos to cars, and the holes they made were the first to rust out.
