Flippant Anarchism. A lighter take on social criticism with the aim of agitation.

Post humorous takes on capitalism and the states which prop it up. Memes, shitposting, screenshots of humorous good takes, discussions making fun of some reactionary online, it all works.

This community is anarchist-flavored. Reactionary takes won't be tolerated.

Don't take yourselves too seriously. Serious posts go to !anarchism@lemmy.dbzer0.com

  2. If the image is a crosspost from an OP, Provide the source.

  3. Absolutely no right-wing jokes. This includes "Anarcho"-Capitalist concepts.

  4. Absolutely no redfash jokes. This includes anything that props up the capitalist ruling classes pretending to be communists.

  5. No bigotry whatsoever. See instance rules.

  6. This is an anarchist comm. You don't have to be an anarchist to post, but you should at least understand what anarchism actually is. We're not here to educate you.

  7. No shaming people for being anti-electoralism. This should be obvious from the above point but apparently we need to make it obvious to the turbolibs who can't control themselves. You have the rest of lemmy to moralize.

That’s not true.

Different, yet similar, agendas.

What agenda do you think drove the "masks are for sissies" COVID response?

We have plenty of capacity to make all the insulin we need and more, it's a more profitable business when there's short supply. We have an infinite capacity for greed.

Exactly, that is free market capitalism.

What agenda do you think drove the "masks are for sissies" COVID response?

That one I’m not sure about, but I can’t think of a way it’s money related. However, the prevalence and cost of masks definitely went up during the pandemic, as most people did mask up. Some other supplies also went up in price, like microphones and cameras for computers as everyone started working from home.

Just use the tiniest bit of imagination.... how many boomers are out there spending down their retirement savings on healthcare and nursing homes? How many of their (fiscally eager to advance) children aren't too upset that they inherited early, before it was spent down, because the disease that kills old people - unfortunately - took out dear old mumsy and pop who swore they'd never give them a dime until they died?

most people did mask up

That wasn't my experience in Floriduh.

That wasn't my experience in Floriduh.

It depends heavily on the location. It was basically split right down party lines. Blue areas were like 90% masked, red areas were like 90% unmasked.

Just use the tiniest bit of imagination....

I’m trying not to stoop to the level of conspiracy theories. Even so, I don’t think your explanation makes any sense. How would the younger generations, especially those without money, contribute to the right wing propaganda that championed anti-masking ideas? Not to mention that most people care about their relatives for more than just their money.

The whole anti-masking things makes more sense to me as part of the long-running trend of anti-science propaganda from the right. Maybe that’s driven by oil companies because anti-science attitudes drive climate change denialism. But it also might just be the effects of the social issues that spun off of these things.

One curious anechdote - my dad was heavily questioning masking during COVID but I don’t remember him questioning masking when our town was full of smoke from wildfires from a few hundred miles north.

How would the younger generations, especially those without money, contribute to the right wing

The right wing (and left) do things to endear "their base" to them come next election. Our direct neighbors are just one example of many: felt strongly that they should be treating their father - in hospital with COVID - with Ivermectin. They were raging against "the system" that withheld Ivermectin from them for his treatment, and ecstatic when they finally got him transferred to an institution that would respect their wishes. He and his wife left this earth a couple of months later, and now they are owners of the rental properties they used to just manage for their parents, they also spend most of their time traveling. How do you think they'll be voting this go around?

The number of people aged 40-60 I know who aren't on speaking terms with their parents, but still on-track to inherit their parents' wealth when they die is astoundingly high. They support policies such as eliminating inheritance taxes, passive income taxes, etc. etc. and they will vote for candidates who promise to do that.

You literally only have 2 right parties, there is no left representation, lol.

[–] MangoCats@feddit.it 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sadly true, but from the inside there's basically two choices, which I find hard not to call "Dumb and Dumber."

The D party plays to college graduates who have good jobs (like me) - it works, but I call it the Dumb party because a lot of what they promise gets destroyed before actual implementation. Continuing to vote for false promises of smart solutions: Dumb in my book.

Then there's the other choice: Dumber.

Always have the choice to start over 👍

[–] MangoCats@feddit.it 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When I see an independent candidate worthy of the vote, I vote for them. Unfortunately, most independents that have appeared on my ballots would fall into the "Dumbest" category.

I started calling it Floriduh a couple of years ago, lived here for 50+ more years before that, it's kind of sliding down suntan-oiled rails to hell.

[–] NonconfrontationaI@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've never been and don't plan on it, lol.

You seen a beach you like? Stick with it, there's nothing magic left here.

[–] NonconfrontationaI@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't think there's much that would get me to set foot in America, lol

[–] MangoCats@feddit.it 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, the past 10 years have been even more embarassing than the previous 15 were.

[–] NonconfrontationaI@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean if you look at the true history of the US and not the whitewashed version, it was kind of inevitable

[–] MangoCats@feddit.it 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'd really like to see the outcome of the timeline where Bush Jr didn't win...

[–] NonconfrontationaI@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'd like to seethe timeline where the natives in the Americas successfully fought off the invaders.

[–] MangoCats@feddit.it 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That wasn't in their nature, not near strongly enough to succeeed.

Bush Jr only got the Whitehouse by a small negative margin plus a hissy fit legal fight and Gore who didn't really want the honor of presiding over the post .com economic crash.

[–] NonconfrontationaI@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

I'd like to see the timeline where the asteroid missed the planet, and the dinosaurs survived, and no apes with opposable thumbs figured out how to pump enough gas into the planet's atmosphere to cause an extinction event for the rest of the 10 million species they're taking with them.
