Global News
What is global news?
Something that happened or was uncovered recently anywhere in the world. It doesn't have to have global implications. Just has to be informative in some way.
Post guidelines
Title format
Post title should mirror the news source title. If you don't like the title of article, look for an alternative source instead of editorializing it.
URL format
Post URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.
[Opinion] prefix
Opinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title. Opinion articles refer to articles that their publisher doesn't explictly endorse.
Country prefix
Country prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) if the news is from a local publisher who doesn't clearly mention the country.

Sure. Give back Crimea.
While Russia is a capitalist power and as such has its own contradictions and reasons to resist support, Ukraine also has US backed Fascists in charge of it's military and government. So much so that the first thing they did after their coup was pass a ban on Russian language. Something that has expanded to destruction and banning of Russian literature, music, Holidays, property names, historical figures, and more. After the coup there were right wing extremists attacking ethnic Russians including the protests in eastern Ukraine. They were then recruited into the military to "de-radicalize" them. Of course this just made the violence sanctioned by the state. Shortly after the Donetsk, Luhansk sought federalization to protect themselves from Russiaphobia. Instead of respecting independent elections Ukraine bombed the hell out of them.
While yes I'm sure that Russia seeks to use Crimea and the other regions to its personal benefit. You have to realize the danger in returning Crimea, a predominantly ethnic Russian area, to a state that has weaponized and supported its fascists to ethnically cleanse Ukraine. The people support Joining Russia because it was Ukraine that said they were not Ukrainian. Not the other way around. If you look prior to the Euro-maiden you'll find many ethnically Russian areas agreed that they believed themselves to be Ukrainian. It changed because Ukraine was taken over.
It is dangerous for Russians in Ukraine, not because of Russia but because of the US and western powers funding Right wing extremists. As such, areas that are mostly ethnically Russian do not want to be ruled by the Ukrainian government anymore.
Edit: I mispoke and said that Donetsk, Luhansk declared independence when actually they still wanted to be part of Ukraine but have it federalized. Which would let them choose their own rules such as preventing the language ban and keeping Russian as a government language in the region.
