A place to discuss and support all Steam Hardware, including Steam Deck, Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and SteamOS in general.

As Lemmy doesn't have flairs yet, you can use these prefixes to indicate what type of post you have made, eg:

These are not enforced, but they are encouraged.

No piracy, there are other communities for that.
Discussion of emulators are allowed, but no discussion on how to illegally acquire ROMs.

Valve released the 3D models for the Steam Frame, so I made some pretty renders in Blender (lemmy.zip)

I only did materials with no textures or UV mapping. Making a fully photo realistic model would be really cool, but would be a massive amount of work.

The files Valve released are just .stp files. They are intended for CAD software like Fusion or AutoCad. The models have only one basic material over every part.

After I converted them to OBJ files and loaded them into Blender, I then created several materials based on my own Frame for comparison. It was a bit of a pain to apply all of the materials (most parts are one solid mesh), but I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

Can you believe that the state of CGI was even worse in the past? In 1969, the technology required to stage the moon landing didn't even exist. They had to build a rocket that could take the equipment and actors to the moon and film on location, just to fake a real moon landing. It was nuts.
