Stop Killing Games:

The consumer movement to stop game publishers from intentionally destroying older games with kill switches.

The goal is to reach 1 million signatures in the EU so that the european parliament will respond to the initiative that then leads to regulation that requires end-of-life plans for games to stay playable.

Easing theft from the consumer, murdering the secondhand market and specialised retailers, breaking the trust of partners. Oh yeah, all minor, petty inconveniences. /s

Honestly, yes. I don't know anyone else who cares about this. In my circle, I am entirely alone in my frustration. Which bodes poorly for any protests we might mount.

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat as you. Somehow nobody cares when companies steal from them, but I pick up a mantle ornament and there's suddenly a problem...

It's tripled my desire and rate of piracy, so there's that. You can only control yourself, after all. But making piracy easier for others as a backhanded dig at Sony would make your point equally well. That's where I'm at. Seed and guide your people's selfishness.

Pretty much what I'm doing too. You can't save those who are too stupid to realise their heads are being shoved under the water, so help those who have the bare minimum of neurons bouncing around to reach out for help.

Assuming, for a second, I don't have a PC, I shouldn't care that basic consumer rights are being eroded from under us? If I have a PC, I should automatically not care about physical media being killed off, including music, film and TV? Piss-poor take, my friend. Look beyond the tip of your nose.

You don't have to buy their products?

Any other canned responses you want to spew? Any other non-solutions your corpo buddies fed you you'd like to regurgitate? Any other assumptions you want to throw down based on nothing?

Corpo buddies? I'm not the one whining about not being able to have a PlayStation, get a grip champ. Consoles have been an over priced shit show for like 2 decades now.

[–] DebatableRaccoon@lemmy.ca 0 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I don't recall saying anything about wanting a PlayStation. Specifically several different things, in fact. You sure you know how to read?

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It's almost like the whole thread is specifically about Sony's PlayStation and their shit policies ..

[–] DebatableRaccoon@lemmy.ca 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

And yet you somehow turned it into me wanting a PlayStation and talking down to me despite the conversation being about shitty policies.

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Why else would you be "devastated" by specifically just Sony's Playstation platform getting rid of fixed media if you didn't own or want to own a PlayStation? If neither of those things apply to you then just sit back and watch them policy themselves into oblivion. My point is (as per my original post) it's not actually devastating, it's just a shit thing, particularly for them and anyone who likes playstations. You seem to see this as the fall of society as a whole because now everything is online. I just see it as just another shit corporation making another shit decision that will ultimately result in less people buying their shit except for idiots who insist their brand represents them for some reason. If you are so "devastated" then get a lawyer and start a class action or lobby your government to do something about it. Or continue screaming into the void, you do you champ.

Time and again companies have made horrendously bad decisions for the consumer and others have soon followed suit, especially in the gaming market. If you can't open your eyes wide enough to understand why a player - and this isn't just PlayStation, it's Sony, a company with fingers in many pies - in an oligopoly putting so much effort into eroding basic ownership principles while everyone else just 'sits back and watches' is bad for the market as a whole, I have nothing more to say to you, you're simply too dim to grasp basic concepts.

Good one champ
