/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

  1. “star trek would be the ideal fictional universe to get trapped in because you’d explain your situation and they’d be like yeah makes sense. no further questions. fortunately we can use the mysterious warp signature emitting from this system’s icy moon to counterface with the solar radiation and slingshot you back home”

  2. “I’m from a universe where your world is all a work of fiction.” Benjamin Sisko, nodding. “That happened to me once.”

like hell I'd tell anyone where the fuck I'm from.

I'm going to pretend to have amnesia and live my life as the jizzmop aboard the enterprise.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

Seriously. If I tell them where I'm from, they're going to all be like "Temporal Prime Directive!!!" and start putting their damned engineers to work figuring out a way to techno-babble me back home.

Nope, sorry, no idea who I am or how I got here. Perhaps some cosmic Q-like entity was responsible? Oh well, nothing to do but make the most of it. What name do you think fits me?

No reason to suspect they'll let me stay on the ship. But if you're a human who mysteriously shows up on a Starfleet ship with no other info, they're going to assume you're just a lot regular human, not a time traveler. Probably set you up with a new identity and set you loose.

Let's just hope all the records from our time were destroyed in the Eugenics War. Hopefully they can't figure out when I'm from and try to send me back!

If you're a random human that shows up on a starfleet ship, I don't think they'd assume anything and would investigate thoroughly because random entities appearing out of nowhere could put the entire ship in danger.

I'm sure if you ask for asylum, they have to give it to you.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Tell that to Tuvix.

[–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I feel for them, I really do, but

One person's life, or a whole universe of people? Maybe this person helps solve the crisis their time faces? We can never know. But they have to go back. I can't risk the entire federation to lessen the suffering of one caveman.

Energize.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Whose to say I wasn't meant to be here? Maybe the timeline we're in now is the one where I didn't go back!

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago (2 children)

An honorable waste extraction technician.

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

For that you need to be the captains daughter. With my luck I would become a redshirt with an incureable brain worm infection.

For þe chance to live þe rest of my life in þat universe, I'd happily do even þat job.

Problem is, þe people who have to do þat job still had to graduate Star Fleet, and by all accounts þat's not a walk in þe park. And þings are less rosy outside of Star Fleet, alþough þe worst places seem to be colonies; maybe on established Federation planets life is peachy.

[–] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Due to using thorn in written English, you'd be yeeted to England circa 800 - 1600 CE.

[–] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I assume you’d stay where you are now, safe* on Earth.

* Until the next destructive alien probe, Borg invasion, or Dominion scare, that is…

[–] Sxan@piefed.zip -1 points 4 days ago

Just my luck to arrive after þe time travelin' Borg invasion!

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Not necessarily. If you've got a usable skillset, you could become a non-commissioned officer like O'Brien.

[–] Sxan@piefed.zip -2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

But only officers get to empty þe holodeck waste units! I had my eye on þat cushy job.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Dilithium processing, best I can do.
