Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

On this day in 1838, the first major group of Cherokee, more than 12,000 people, were forced out of Tennessee, traveling westward from the town of Red Clay. A Choctaw leader called the forced deportations "a trail of tears and death".

The Trail of Tears was the cumulative result of a series of forced relocations of approximately 60,000-100,000 Native Americans in the United States from their ancestral homelands in the southeast to areas west of the Mississippi River that had been designated as "Indian Territory".

In 1837-38, President Martin Van Buren allowed Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Alabama, using an armed force of 7,000 people, to relocate about 13,000 Cherokees to Cleveland, Tennessee. On October 1st, 1838, the first major group of Cherokee, more than 12,000 people in hundreds of covered wagons, were forced out of Tennessee, traveling westward from the town of Red Clay.

Taking the journey through an unusually cold winter, they suffered terribly from exposure, disease, and starvation, killing several thousand people while en route to their new designated reserve. They were also attacked by locals and economically exploited - starving Indians were charged a dollar a head, equal to $24.01 today, to cross the Ohio River, which typically charged twelve cents, equal to $2.88 today.

I hope you nerds have a good month of October cuddle

Regarding Brasil elections: so far only diasporas have finished, Lula wins in south korea, mainland china, new zealand, australia, malaysia and singapore, bozonaro wins in japan, taiwan, the phillipines, thailand and the uae and is leading in india, portugal closes the voting in 30 mins. Not surprised the us lapdogs in east asia all vote for fascism as usual. In the places Lula has won tho its been by a massive landslide esp in china where he has won in every city brazilians have voted in, first time in history

"Abstention was highest in Faro, where 66.62% of registered voters did not vote, compared to 63.56% in Lisbon and 57.30% in Porto. In absolute numbers, 5,510 voters did not go to the polls in Faro, 49,964 in Lisbon, and 27,217 in Porto. Voter turnout was 33.38% in Faro, 36.44% in Lisbon, and 42.70% in Porto." Faro elected bozonaro, the other two Lula. Faro and the Algarve as a whole seem to be very fash as they also usually elect Chega (far-right portuguese party). We need to islamize Iberia again.

Brasil's consulate in lisbon is claiming out of all 79.000 registered voters only 31.000 showed up to vote apparently, damn. Registered to vote in lisbon that is, not all of portugal.

Last few countings have Lula catching up and bozonaro falling again behind the 50%, we'll have to wait and see.

He’s gonna lose. Lula is gonna lose, I just know it
