I get frustrated by summer.
I have a core temp that is pretty much a full degree cooler than normal. Apparently this is very much on the outside of the typical range for humans, and my last GP (now retired) thinks it came about due to a heat exhaustion event when I was 18 that shut down my kidneys and did a bunch of other system reset things.
So when the temps get anywhere above about 20-24, my ability to work outside starts to crater. Not only do I sweat like a mofo as my body desperately tries to cool itself - think totally drenched and physically dripping like a leaky faucet by the time most people start getting moist on their foreheads - but that sweat pours off of my head and into my eyes, forcing me to stop what I am doing and towel my entire head off every 5-15 minutes.
And yes, this happens at 25℃. Like, fuck me.
And even though I’m all the way up here in Canada, I’m in it’s only semi-arid desert. You know, the one that nearly cracked 50℃ in that PNW heat dome a few years back. Summer temps - thanks to climate change - have gone from 28-35℃ heatwaves for 3-5 days at a time in the 80s, to 35-45℃ heatwaves for two to three weeks at a time today. And they frequently come back for encores.
Which means that I am stuck inside, where there is AC to keep me alive, for a large proportion of the summer. When I want nothing more than to get outside and get shit done around the house while there is oodles of daylight available to get it done in.
Climate change is going to be hell on me over the next few decades, especially if the scientific modelling/projections of total civilizational collapse (World2 models, especially the 2021 & 2024 confirmations) by about 2040-2050 actually come to pass. RIP electricity for AC likely also means RIP my ability to be alive in the summer.
Fun times.
