I am looking for mods!

1. The "good" part of our community means we are pro-empathy and anti-harassment. However, we don't intend to make this a "safe space" where everyone has to be a saint. Sh*t happens, and life is messy. That's why we get things off our chests.

2. Bigotry is not allowed. That includes racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and religiophobia. (If you want to vent about religion, that's fine; but religion is not inherently evil.)

3. Frustrated, venting, or angry posts are still welcome.

4. Posts and comments that bait, threaten, or incite harassment are not allowed.

5. If anyone offers mental, medical, or professional advice here, please remember to take it with a grain of salt. Seek out real professionals if needed.

6. Please put NSFW behind NSFW tags.

I used to believe racism in the United States was overstated.

Sure, it existed. But it's not something widespread. Common. The claim americans are racists is ridiculous.

Well...I was wrong.

"Zohran Mamdani is a terrorist"

"Mamdani supports ISIS and HAMAS"

"New York City faces sharia law"

"Mamdani wants to MURDER jews"

The amount of shit published about this guy is absolutely insane.

He recently attended the 9/11 memorial ceremony.

At some point, he greeted congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and smiled for 5 seconds.

Immediatly, politicians went wild

Senator Ted Cruz:

Congresswoman Mary Miller :

Speaker Mike Johnson:

Here is the video. You can clearly see that he was stoic. He hugged her. Then he immediatly went back to being stoic.

Dude smiled 5 SECONDS in a 5 hour ceremony and they accuse him of celebrating 9/11

At the same ceremony, JD Vance and Howard Lutnick laughed and joked.

No one cares. They are white.

The US is more racist than I ever imagined.

Let's all take a moment to remember that a lot of racist online accounts were unmasked as bots from Russia and other foreign countries.

Not saying that bigotry doesn't exist IRL in the US (as an American myself I can confirm it absolutely does), but don't judge a country by what its "citizens" are saying online.

[–] 1D10@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

To be fair none of the racist fucks i have known ever posted racist shit on the internet, and didn't say anything racist in public, but behind closed doors in a safe suburban home they would tell you what they thought. These are the people who say "it's not polite to discuss politics" if they think you disagree with them, and they all vote, they want the far right world they just know it hurts people and they don't want to get yelled at.

This is very true, BUT also consider that they're enabling and rallying the actual racists here to join together and fight for racism.

This could not be a more obvious psyop that all of you are falling for.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Falling for? They're not wrong. I wasn't countering them, just adding flavor.

Are you saying the PsyOP that Russian and Chinese trolls aren't trying to amplify discontent?

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works -3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

The PsyOp is convincing people of two things: 1) that every person who voted for Trump did it because they're racist (as opposed to greedy, which is differently bad) and 2) that the majority of Americans are racist.

Enabling racists is bad, I'm actually not arguing against that. Racists may represent the U.S. right now, that does not mean that most Americans are racist.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

The ven diagram of Trumpers and Racists isn't a circle, but from 15 ft away it is.

It's like the people who claim to be against genocide but support the Israeli government and claim it was self-defense.

If you don't consider yourself a racist, and you hire a racist POS into office who immediately attacks anything even remotely non-white, (for a second time), you're a racist too. The financials don't read into it.

The majority of Americans might well be a little racist. Now we're not talking about hanging people from a tree racist, but they're cheering DEI being dismantled, against equity rights and are often noted as saying "those people"

[–] BillCheddar@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You're confusing racist people and racist systems that people live in.

Racist people piss themselves and we all have to smell it. Racist systems are pools where the water is deliberately 20% piss and we all have to live in it.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca -1 points 4 days ago

You choose not to physically remove the people pissing in the pool. Sounds like a “you” problem.

russian bots came on the scene suddenly on the reddit around 2016, right after trump won his 1st stolen election. i was calling out how news article are associated with russia quite alot, one of the first significant things happen in 2018, banning were becoming increasingly common of misconstrued critcisim of the conservatives. now every other large sub had become hypersensitive over the talk of potential racism in any form. Putin figured out early on they can use this as a distraction, and it worked.
