It's still cheaper in Texas than anywhere else in the world.

For people who talk so much about how tough they are, they sure whine a lot.

Everything's bigger in Texas, even the cowards

That's definitely not true. Converting litres to US gallons and JPY -> USD, we're under $3.50 here in Japan.

[–] Freeposity@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (2 children)

That's surprising. Do you know why that is?

I'm pretty sure the government has a hand in things since we'd grind to a halt pretty quickly (lots of things move by truck, farming requires diesel, and plenty of trains, particularly in rural areas, are diesel-electric). I don't know any detail, though.

Japan is extremely sensitive to diesel prices and shortages. The government maintains about 200 days’ worth of 100% operations capacity reserves in order to mitigate any supply issues or price fluctuations.

As is Australia, we consume more diesel per capita then any other country on earth and don't have a strategic reserve located on shore, we have small amount in some rented space in the US.

While some leeway should be given to the argument we're a big country with a small population and moving shit around is problematic and energy intensive, we've not invested in electrification of rail transport or trains at all (we recently abandoned a 1/2 completed inland rail project)and have indeed gone the other way for 50 years and just built roads.

No it's not, in the last few weeks I've been in 9 stares traveling and Texas is in line with them all

That's what I get for relying on past experience instead of looking it up. Texas used to be consistently cheaper, especially east of Houston, where refineries are.

Edit: Ah, my other mistake was thinking gasoline rather than diesel. It's weird about diesel being more expensive, because it's a simpler fuel to make.

Pretty sure that’s American propaganda. I was checking the Middle East for prices, and I see much cheaper values there. This is after conversion, comparing Sept. 2026, with similar volume.

  • Kuwait: $1.41
  • Egypt: $1.50
  • Saudi Arabia: $1.81
  • Qatar: $2.13
  • Texas: $5.86

I think the issue is conversion, cost of living differences, and their own proximity to global pipelines & production.

Europe: roundabout 10€, depending on Thema country. So about 12 USD per gallon.

Gas prices are cheaper in the midwest fuck you mean cheapest in the world??

Wages and relative cost of living is lower in Texas than many other states. Also I would bet we rely on diesel-reliant industries more as well, so it's a big deal.
