It's still cheaper in Texas than anywhere else in the world.

For people who talk so much about how tough they are, they sure whine a lot.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 52 points 5 days ago

Everything's bigger in Texas, even the cowards

That's definitely not true. Converting litres to US gallons and JPY -> USD, we're under $3.50 here in Japan.

[–] Freeposity@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (2 children)

That's surprising. Do you know why that is?

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub 8 points 5 days ago

I'm pretty sure the government has a hand in things since we'd grind to a halt pretty quickly (lots of things move by truck, farming requires diesel, and plenty of trains, particularly in rural areas, are diesel-electric). I don't know any detail, though.

[–] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Japan is extremely sensitive to diesel prices and shortages. The government maintains about 200 days’ worth of 100% operations capacity reserves in order to mitigate any supply issues or price fluctuations.

As is Australia, we consume more diesel per capita then any other country on earth and don't have a strategic reserve located on shore, we have small amount in some rented space in the US.

While some leeway should be given to the argument we're a big country with a small population and moving shit around is problematic and energy intensive, we've not invested in electrification of rail transport or trains at all (we recently abandoned a 1/2 completed inland rail project)and have indeed gone the other way for 50 years and just built roads.

No it's not, in the last few weeks I've been in 9 stares traveling and Texas is in line with them all

That's what I get for relying on past experience instead of looking it up. Texas used to be consistently cheaper, especially east of Houston, where refineries are.

Edit: Ah, my other mistake was thinking gasoline rather than diesel. It's weird about diesel being more expensive, because it's a simpler fuel to make.

Pretty sure that’s American propaganda. I was checking the Middle East for prices, and I see much cheaper values there. This is after conversion, comparing Sept. 2026, with similar volume.

  • Kuwait: $1.41
  • Egypt: $1.50
  • Saudi Arabia: $1.81
  • Qatar: $2.13
  • Texas: $5.86

I think the issue is conversion, cost of living differences, and their own proximity to global pipelines & production.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Europe: roundabout 10€, depending on Thema country. So about 12 USD per gallon.

Gas prices are cheaper in the midwest fuck you mean cheapest in the world??

[–] OlPatchy2Eyes@slrpnk.net 1 points 4 days ago

Wages and relative cost of living is lower in Texas than many other states. Also I would bet we rely on diesel-reliant industries more as well, so it's a big deal.

[–] Sirdubdee@piefed.social 39 points 5 days ago (2 children)

But why are the prices high, GREG?

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago

Those damnable democrats and minorities, clearly.

[–] abcdqfr@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Mandarin Chief needs a national emergency to cancel the election and stay out of prison

[–] rollerbang@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

You know he'll never go to prison. Even for those 34 counte he's been sentenced to... Nothing. Sentenced, but to nothing.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 40 points 5 days ago (1 children)

And let me guess, he's blaming Biden? Or maybe Obama?

[–] laranis@lemmy.zip 17 points 5 days ago

I know my in-laws are. Big orange could strangle their dog and shit on the corpse and they'd still blame the Dems. Fucking unreal.

[–] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 14 points 5 days ago

He should be declaring a disaster over the republican leadership of Texas.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Red states declaring disasters because the red leadership fucked them. Every blue state needs to follow to keep the fed from collecting the tax. And then stay a disaster for the next 2 years.

[–] PenguinMage@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

You should see his fucking unreal reelection ads, motherfuckers been in office forever and still claims he's going to change shit. Wish someone would push him onto i35 and laugh.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

Did he put an Trump-faced "I did that!" sticker to the disaster?

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

He should have declared it because of failed republican leadership of the federal government. The price of diesel is just a symptom.

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 13 points 5 days ago

i just charge my BYD from the solar panels on the roof of my house. Unlike Texas, I have the freedom to choose.

ABBOT is most certain worried about re-election? or the next republican to be elected. thats why he "stopped" the 1800+ ai dacenters temporairly.

[–] fake@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 days ago

yes thats what he did recently.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago

Well if it isn't F.A.F.O. Abbott.

[–] bulwark@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Why don't they succeed about it

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 2 points 5 days ago

Meanwhile diesel is like 2.70€ per liter around here, and you can't even use it to go into cities anymore if your vehicle is slightly older, Texans will be fine.

[–] Jackusflackus@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

What a wuss, it’s $7.00+ in our state

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

aw he forgot his orange daddy do dat?
