news
Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
-
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

Not true at all, the narrative has been definitive that the mistakes are absolutely 100% made. Don't backpedal, have a spine or admit that the people you are defending are taking it too far.
It's not just me, it's also chavista leaders at large, the communes, and a large contingency of users here. Framing it otherwise is an abject fabrication. I haven't called for anyone to banned, but we have every right to combat liberalism, and when our points are ignored, the combatting increases. We are literally communists from a tradition of marxists standing up and even ridiculing liberals for showing their asses.
How? Those people are in this thread now? Quit making things up. They continue to say their positions, I continue to say mine
Okay so you aren't following the ongoing threads on this for months, but feel confident you can speak on this. What does that make you?
I have been clearly and directly speaking about the entire contingency of anti Venezuela users on this website that you have decided to hitch your wagon to and even defend. You are literally sub tweeting about me, why not go back and respond to my actual points on the subject if you feel confident enough to talk shit about me personally? Most of the other users with the same positions as me are being nice and also being ignored and their points discarded. If people can't actually argue but don't change their mind about somethin or concede their baseless position they don't know about, what does that make them?
I've never said what is or isn't allowed, but this is a leftist website which means using evidence to support analysis. Myself and plenty of others have provided ours, but it is ignored and when asked for evidence that delcy is a comprador and chavismo is dead they have nothing to provide because it's made up. Why are you so against people pushing against made up things? Why do I have to be nice to people repeatedly saying things without evidence but presenting it as real and true and that everyone who doesn't agree is just coping? You are a hypocrite, be consistent
Wow you really know these random hexbear users on a personal level. It's interesting because as the person who has been interacting with them the whole time, my "first" reaction was to have a normal back and forth and after a long time of doing that and seeing others do that and be ignored, it became clear that their goals were not to engage with any points but to just make sweeping claims about people without evidence.
This is what all the delcy haters are doing, again, be consistent. The pro chavista HB users have consistently claimed to not know the inner machinations of Venezuelan leadership but to instead rely on the account and perspective of the Venezuelan masses. I have posted interviews with chavistas that you all have ignored, just as you continue to ignore chavistas now despite making claims about their movement.
Okay so you know the intimate details of these users personal lives, are defending them and standing up for them, but have no idea what they are saying? Why are you caping for people when you aren't even following their own comments?
You are the one sub tweeting me personally, forgive me if I lump you in with the people making very specific and concrete judgements on the situation. I have interacted numerous times with people having a position of concern but not knowing, without being hostile. The hostility has been exclusive to users who repeatedly say nonsense and manufacture consent for more dead Venezuelans. If you don't want to be associated with those positions or assumed to have them, stop caping for those users.
