This is nothing new. I don't agree with it but people are acting like this was rolled out yesterday. Unless we can reverse the supreme court ruling on it, nothing will prevent them from searching phones at airports or within 100 of borders.
This ruling was specific to people entering the country, if you aren't entering the country they need a warrant still.

Just upload an encrypted tarball to a cloud service and retrieve it afterwards.
Yeah I should have added that they need a warrant IF you use a passcode. If you use biometrics they may fall into loopholes that they can search it. Essentially they pretty much own your body when arrested, but not your thoughts. So they can't make you turn over the code without a warrant. Aka if you are going to get arrested turn off your phone. It makes complete sense that you would want to have battery when you got out of jail 8 hours later or I guess longer if they actually had a charge to pin on you. "Why did you turn off your phone" "to make sure I could call someone to pick me up after I get out or call a cab service"
