Aha, you give me some hope. I have an Ableton Launchpad S that I struggled to integrate with my outdated PC, but now I have a little powerhouse PC for which that shouldn't be a problem.

Problem? I've become rather physically disabled since Covid, and can't play my guitar anymore, and drumming is hard for me now. So I'm not sure what to do with my Ableton, which I once bought with such enthusiasm. 😅 (I'm middle-aged, TBC)

can’t play my guitar anymore

😢

... I’m thinking about not being able to play the piano anymore, and for sure it will happen one day, but damn.

Ah no, I hope not. 😔

I don't know piano or music theory very well, but it's such a wonderful instrument. Fond memories of my mom, when I think of piano-playing. But she did help launch me towards a path of singing (and dancing).

Did you ever see the movie "The Painted Veil?" There was this wonderful song, "À la claire fontaine"...

You’re right after all, maybe not. I saw a 90 year old woman playing the piano last month, and not an easy piece at that, even if you could tell her hands were not as nimble as they used to be.

But still, you never know what your body’s going to throw at you in the future.

I never saw this movie, but I know the song. « À la claire fontaine » is actually a very well known traditional song in France, that I think almost any kid could sing to you, the first verses at least. While writing this answer, I was wondering where and when it came from, and that seems to be unclear, but apparently it’s very popular in Québec too.

Ah, that's neat. I don't know why it's not more popular in the States. I find it a really good song in any language. Meanwhile, a huge amount of people here know Frère Jacques and Alouette.

That's what I also found, based on a quick search.

Ableton Live is a great tool to compose music - tho I am not a fan of the squishy buttons on its interfaces, I don't know how it would work for you with your disability. But with a good DAW you can erase and adjust, and play around with samples, with midi. Maybe a midi keyboard would work for you? A small one like the Akai LPK25 is quite inexpensive and will open a lot of possibilities plugged into Live.

In any case, I wish you fun!

Thanks for the tips!
