It's an Akai APC40MKII, originally designed for Ableton - but it's standard midi stuff, I use it everywhere: Ardour, D:Light, QLab, you name it.
Here it's plugged into Isadora, our video playback software, where it will handle 2 outputs to 4 screens surrounding the audience. That console allows me to fine-tune stuff much easier than typing numbers on the keyboard.
Ableton Live is a great piece of software, tho for theatre I end up using QLab a lot more often. And for serious video trickery (and fun), nothing beats Isadora!
Aha, you give me some hope. I have an Ableton Launchpad S that I struggled to integrate with my outdated PC, but now I have a little powerhouse PC for which that shouldn't be a problem.
Problem? I've become rather physically disabled since Covid, and can't play my guitar anymore, and drumming is hard for me now. So I'm not sure what to do with my Ableton, which I once bought with such enthusiasm. 😅 (I'm middle-aged, TBC)

... I’m thinking about not being able to play the piano anymore, and for sure it will happen one day, but damn.
Ableton Live is a great tool to compose music - tho I am not a fan of the squishy buttons on its interfaces, I don't know how it would work for you with your disability. But with a good DAW you can erase and adjust, and play around with samples, with midi. Maybe a midi keyboard would work for you? A small one like the Akai LPK25 is quite inexpensive and will open a lot of possibilities plugged into Live.
