Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters has dubbed Ed Sheeran a “p****” who has “done the wrong thing” amid the ongoing controversy over Macklemore being pulled as a support act from Sheeran’s tour after expressing solidarity with Palestinians on stage.

For anyone who doesn't want to watch the included video: p**** = prick

Edit for formatting

2nd Edit: I have just learned that Waters has very publicly supported Putin in the war on Ukraine saying, that Putin governs carefully and makes decisions based on consensus? So it’s pricks all around in this story.

I don't agree with Roger Waters' "the West is always in the wrong" worldview, but his music has always been heavily political and opinionated, and is better for it.

Not every band has something to say about society and the world at large, but Pink Floyd and Roger Waters certainly do.

These are important things to know when you're listening to fucking music I guess.

Commercial musicians make music based on what the listeners want to hear. Genuine artists make music based on what they want listeners to hear.

One is marketing, the other is expression.

I find it ridiculous when either side tells artists that they need to stay out of politics or stay in their lane.

I don't agree with most of what Roger Waters says, but I will defend to the death his right to say it, in his music and otherwise. I think that's healthy and absolutely neccessary.

I will also defend the right for me to say what I personally think about all the things he has the right to say. Like that it's too bad he's some idiot tankie who doesn't think Putin has to respect those kind of rights in his country, and how I think that makes him a piece of shit and complicit in Putin's evil. He can still say it though, that's his right, and I like it when pieces of shit advertise themselves.

Is it any less ridiculous to not respect someone when they choose to be apolitical? Do you think someone isn't a "genuine artist" when they're apolitical?

That's what's happening here isn't it? Ed Sheeran doesn't want to be involved with politics and is being bullied for "not taking a side."

Macklemore and those billionaires put Sheeran in the middle of the argument. But you don't get to not pick a side when one side is literally supporting the wanton murder of innocent men, women, and children. I don't think you can be a member of society and remain apolitical when innocent people are being slaughtered.

Is that unfair to Sheeran? Maybe, but I don't care. The guy is worth hundreds of millions of dollars and the loss of this tour is not any more than an inconvenience for him. I side with the innocent children gaza being killed by snipers.

It's not unfair. Imagine if we applied the same logic to the duty to report child abuse: "I'm apolitical, and I want to remain neutral. I don't want to get involved, I just want to do my job and nothing more. I shouldn't have to report abuse of a child if I don't want to. It's not my fault they're getting abused, actually it's unfair to make me get involved in something like this even if I know it is wrong, because it might have consequences for me if I say something about it. Obviously I'm sad the children are getting abused but they should find some other way to deal with that which doesn't involve me."

A very good point.

That’s what’s happening here isn’t it? Ed Sheeran doesn’t want to be involved with politics and is being bullied for “not taking a side.”

Sheeran cancelling Macklemore's involvement in his tour based on the stadium owner's political views of Macklemore's political views seems pretty "involved with politics" to me. He was definitely put in a situation where he had to pick a side, but Robert Kraft put him there, not the public who are reacting to his decision-making.

I think the best way for Sheeran to stay above the politics is to simply sit back, say nothing and let his opening acts say whatever they want to say.
