World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Once Trump's gone things are not going to magically return to normal. Nutters like Musk and Thiel will still be infliencing things. Vance and Millar will still be around. None of these people are going to see justice.
America voted Trump in twice in two separate sittings and it's quite obvious that a large enough slice of the population is a-okay with his policies and shitting on allies.
It's too much of a risk to have such close integration that our defence posture and economy are overly dependent on how many voters turn up in southern states.
It would be absolute negligence for Europe to accept going back to the way things were beforehand and a total waste of money trying to influence their elections. We should work on areas that don't leave us liable to be extorted but should always keep America at arms length like we do with the chinese. I mean christ we're pulling out our gold now due to the risk it might be used against us.
He didn't get 50% of the vote either time and things are much better for the USA, NATO, and the EU with the DNC in charge.
Don't act like Trump's illegal tarriffs and friendship with (subservience to) Putin are the norm.
And how many American voters just DNGAF and stayed at home? It's a coin flip now which US you're going to be dealing with every election cycle. MAGA isn't going back in the bag, it's just going to morph into America First.
Trump was America taking its mask off, it's spelled out now in big letters "we have leverage, were going to use it and make you know we're using it too". That 30% of Americans absolutely love it. Is the next GOP ignore the base on this and say that alliances are beneficial? Of course not, they are going to blame them for taking American jobs and not paying their way in NATO and all the other MAGA guff.
The EU population is now aware of our vulnerability to the US and how the US wants to exploit it. It's not going to be politically tenable for EU leadership to pretend like nothing happened over the last 10 years. You can't make long term plans with a country that is so unstable.
It's not just the EU, South Asians now cannot count on Americans to be around to back them up and are having to re-evaluate their alliances and cosy up to China more. And the Canadians? Well....
8 million people who voted for Biden didn't show up for Kamala Harris, in very large part because of intervention by China utilizing TikTok.
And now China is helping the AfD rake in gains in Germany and similar actions across the EU.
That's exactly what I mean when I say the EU is better off with the USA and should be spending resources to counter the eastern bloc before it becomes too late.
The trust is broken. We can't be an ally on and off every 4 years. The US supported Orban and AfD etc, it's clear that we are on different paths. Personally I will never want Europe to be an ally to the US again.
Then enjoy having a third militaristic autocratic world power because you chose to do nothing, dufus.
And who else is appearing at AfD events and actively helping them? Elon Musk. What democrat is going to have the balls to take him on and remove his wealth? It's just not happening, the US is always going to be a problem for the rest of the world now the US oligarchs have played their cards and now can't slink back into the shadows for fear of reprisals.
If we saw a DNC leader that actually broke up big tech, nationalised Elons Musks SpaceX, held trials for the Trump administration then we might start warming to you again. But it's fantasy stuff, I will make a prediction now that you won't even remove the ballroom, at best it will be renamed to someone the right hates and then renamed again back to Trump when the GOP come back to power. A disappointing amount of Trumps damage will be repaired and China is going overtake the US to become the new world super power.
It is the DNC platform to tax wealth, Kamala Harris' tax plan on her official 2024 campign website was to tax unrealized gains of millionaires and higher.
So, all of them.
It has very obviously been the norm for the last decade.
I don't know how you can keep pretending it's not.
Because things were measurably and visibly better under DNC leadership without fail.
