Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

Benjamin J. Davis, born on this day in 1903, was American lawyer and communist who was elected in 1943 to the New York City Council, representing Harlem. Davis was persecuted by the state via the anti-communist Smith and McCarran Acts.

Davis became radicalized through his role as defense attorney in the 1933 trial of Angelo Herndon, a 19-year-old black communist who had been charged "attempting to incite insurrection" because he tried to organize a farm workers' union.

In 1949, Davis was among a number of communist leaders prosecuted for violating the Smith Act. He was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison. In 1962 Davis was charged with violating the Internal Security Act (also known as the McCarran Act), but died before the case could come to trial.

"Whether one agrees with the Communist Party or not, one must at least know the truth about it. One must not permit his ideas to be shaped by the hysteria which now passes as a 'crusade against Communism'... For example, the canard that every Communist has his pockets lined with 'Moscow gold.' If that were true, one could be sure that there would scarcely be any room in our party for workers. The capitalists, to whom gold is god of the universe, would crowd them out."

what worries me about the western left is how low they'll get for so little, AOC, Bernie, Mamdani, Abdul Seyed and the DSA gang haven't pulled out the free healthcare card and they got them dancing and celebrating??? being a ride or die for a candidate who doesn't even promise the minimum

For real, it's pathetic.

In 2024 when liberals were falling over acting like they genuinely believed Kopmala "Holocauϟϟt Harriϟϟ" was a progressive darling who would definitely end the genocide in Palestine and finally bring stability and prosperity to all, and getting mad at me for not playing along, I realized that these people were just engaging in willfull self-delusion. They just wanted to cling to the comforting lie of hope that the DemoKKKratic Party is good and will protect them and will give them a better life if they just put their faith in it.

This is weirdly similar to the response a lot of people have for the fake socialists you list above, who will get upset when people criticize those politicians for their collaboration with zionist and capitalist powers.

In both cases it's not about the candidates or what they promise, it's about chasing that feeling of delusional hope, and they'll get mad at us for interfering in their access to that fake hope because it is all that stands between them and despondency. But clinging to fake hope is counterrevolutionary and prevents people from seeking actual solutions.

Same people who always go "why isn't [insert global south country] doing something about this" while doing jack shit to destroy the empire from the inside lmao they think posting on lib zionist hexbear is praxis

The bar is so low in America that people will celebrate any politician who promises some economic relief and isn't blatantly hateful

No free healthcare, no defuned the police, no abolish ICE. The list goes on. But I guess epic clapbacks on social media or having a good personality is enough.

when the DSA electoralist liberal who promises healthcare, they're going to excuse him dropping a nuke.
