They even dont recognise the potato as a seperate entity. They really just call them pomme de terre (ground apple) and job's a goodun.
Ah but they're not potatoes there.... They're ground apples (that's the translation in case you've no French). Doesn't count. Big pharma got in on the naming after a campaign by doctors who didn't like them.
Yeah but that's like asking a potato to colonize the moon. The space moon.
Taxes.
Talk to the English.... They were very fond of taking potatoes for taxes in the 1800s (historically accurate truth is that the Irish grew other crops to pay the taxes and used potatoes for their own subsistence but it was an obvious dig that I had to get in for the giggles).
