American bases in the USA don't really pose a threat to Iran. The American bases in the region are needed for USA warplanes to take off from.
Unlike what most people seem to believe, the US cannot just strike anywhere in the whole world. They need bases at a maximum of around 800 miles distance of a target. For an F35 to take off and return to base on a full tank.
Else a lot of refueling planes to get their F35's to the target. It gets exponentially more expensive the longer the US plane needs to travel.
Unless they use literal nukes with intercontinental bilallistic missiles they need bases in the region.

I forgot to mention the US also has missiles like Tomahawks which don't require refuelling, because they're one-way and guess why the US is now running low on missiles
