I'm not a big wikipedia person, but it seems like a lot of speculative information is included about the grifter and his/her intentions that isn't confirmed anywhere. The way it is written frames them as if they were backed into a corner with no other options other than to scam people online to pay for medical school.

Does it? It seems to me that it implies that he did quite a bit of other things in addition to this, but that this was the most lucrative.

I agree, the article describes the fake AI influencer as one of Sam's multiple approaches to making money. It doesn't suggest or even hint that he or she was forced into it in any way.
