You can't use your PTO without coverage. You're too critical to business functions to miss even a single day.
We'll fire you for any reason or no reason at all. We don't even need you. You should be grateful we let you work here.
And folks wonder why 90% of businesses fail.
Attendance is not any reason. You are literally hired for attending. If you cannot be consistent how can you expect to be valuable?
I don't find that as a professional attitude. It is not a team attitude as well. I understand there are certain events that cannot be missed and I would work with my employees to accommodate.
However, that attitude never lasts. Anywhere I have ever managed or been an employee. It is a roadblock to promotion or worse. And you can have the attitude "that's not my problem". But remember that next time you have an issue you bring to your boss and they say "it's not my problem". They are people too that report to supervisors.
Let me make something extremely fucking clear.
There are plenty of places to get a paycheck.
Time with my family is irreplaceable. We're only on the same team as long as you understand that you will never be as important as home life.
Go ahead. That sounds like a threat and I wouldn't trust you. My boss wouldn't trust you either. Go find that other job. I'm not your mother.
The sad part you don't seem to understand is that you and people like you are the problem. Those insisting on taking days of are fighting for worker rights most of the world already has, the reason the US doesn't is that there are to many people who betray their colleges like you do

Buddy, the world isn't resting on your shoulders. You're just as replaceable as everybody else is. If you didn't show up, they'd recover faster than you'd think. In a week they'd forget you were ever there. It's a job, even if you were half as critical as you let yourself believe, your superiors certainly don't believe it, and will cut you loose as soon as the number under your name goes from black to red.
Are you under some illusion that I don't want days off? That I haven't had PTO denied? You speak of some fantasy where every day you want, you get. I am warning those reading this that aren't commenting. Those that think this attitude of "fuck it I'm going to do it anyways" is going to go well.
I have never seen it pan out. It's a horrible attitude in any sort of relationship. I already know I'm replaceable.
.I find it odd that Lemmy talks a big game of being kind and forth right but when someone does it about a subject they are dead set against the claws come out. I think there is an ethical way to fulfill both the business and the employees and be successful. It's a balancing act. And it takes compromise all the way around.
Every day I want, I do get. As long as I have the time available anyway. A few times even when I didn't.
I can recall one time in the last 10 years where there was any question about that fact.

It is your employers responsibility to ensure your role has adequate coverage for your available time off. Not yours.
That's literally my job. I ensure we have right amount of staffing. I gave said it several times. I just simply don't agree that everyone should take any day all time. Attendance is part of being dependable and thus valuable to a team. Holding attendance standards is just like any other performance factor.
You need to know that you are wrong, your views on work life balance are abhorrent, and you're doing a bad job
Wrong about how showing up is part of work? Ok. Just show up whenever you feel like it and tell me if you have a job. I think you're full of shit if you get to do that. Or you are like a Kardashian.
It's your bosses obligation to make sure there are enough people to cover the shifts not yours, if you except being exploited or even defend it than yes you are holding up everyone else.
No it's not. I'm in charge of 30 people in a place that has close to a hundred employees. It's my department. I am the one that makes those choices. However I do not make their union contract and I do not do anything other than adhere to what their CBA holds them to. I have only terminated one person for attendance in my time of 5 years. The rest of been neglence of safety on the employee.
If it's your choice than employ enough people that some else can jump in if someone is sick or takes a vacation everything else is just bad management.

If your work is important to you, good for you, but your boss is not thinking about you when you aren’t around.

Wow. You sound really jaded. That cooperative work equates to some kind of negative. In fact you sound like a teenager that has not fully formed their emotions. I'm telling you how it comes off and what are the consequences from an upper management perspective. Since I sit in on meetings from a multi-billion company with them, maybe hear it out. Or don't. It's really up to you if you think I'm out to get you from telling you what happens in today's business world.
Do I wish we could all take every single day we want and not work 50 hours a week and do what my boss says? Yes. But I am not more in control of those strings than anyone else here and just play the game just like everyone else.
You know what a professional attitude would be? Organising your team in a way that doesn't make everything fall apart because of one person being unavailable.
My team does not. But that's because I am the one that organized it and has redundancies. However I realize normally businesses do not have that luxury.
It's not a luxury, it's a basic prerequisite. What you call normal is a failure.

Then you're a crap employee and you wouldn't be welcome on our team. We like adults working with us that bring actual conversations that help do what we do.
We do in fact play in traffic. We are literally professionals at it. It's so heartwarming that you care so much.
