Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Anti-science, inactivism, and unsupported conspiracy theories are not ok here.

mmmm so juicy

yes...because me eating meat is the highest cause of greenhouse gasses. totally not the unmonitored industrial factories across the globe.

It's not the only source, or even a majority, but it is big enough to matter and it saves money for almost everybody to stop. (Sole real exception: arctic populations who have to import anything agricultural)

it's one of the best things you can do as an individual, among others.

Sure but can we stop the bull shit that it is our fault and not the companies who are polluting way worse then we are. But they always say we have to do blah blah blah cause they can't do anything to hurt profits.

And yes I'm bitter I'm still mad that recycling was lie.

like using paper straws? or using reusable cups from starbucks? or turning my AC up above 78°F?

myths. all myths. you want to stop global warming? break out the guillotine and start rolling the heads of every single person with a wealth over $100 million.

Appeal to futility.

Cant fix everything? Why bother doing anything.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world -4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm not trying to fix everything. I'm just trying to focus all my efforts into something that will solve the problem.

we're in a burning building and you are claiming you're helping by not drinking water.

Then what are you even trying to fix? I just see you arguing against veganism, not proposing anything else.
