They only stopped interviewing him because he was literally in hiding.

There's also this quote from him being interviewed by Al Jazeera in October 2001:

During the interview, Allouni had asked bin Laden for his response to the claim that he was behind the attacks on September 11. bin Laden described the hijackers as "brave guys who took the battle to the heart of America" and said that "[t]hey did this, as we understand it, and this is something we have agitated for before, as a matter of self-defense...If inciting people to do that is terrorism, and if killing those who kill our sons is terrorism, then let history be witness that we are terrorists." He also described the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan as a war between Muslims and a "global crusade".
