Certainly not. And what's the takeaway supposed to be from his anecdote - that he should have triangulated his opposition to the Iraq invasion??

Edit: I wonder if OOPs perspective is a symptom of cognitive dissonance. America is the best freest country in the world and our democratic elections are perfect, but W Bush still got two terms and invaded Iraq. So to avoid squaring the reality that USA does bad things, the liberal mind palace insists that liberals are not voting and campaigning in just the right pandering compromising way.
