In the truck it's mainly because they have to comply with the highway limits: 80,000 gross pounds, 12,000 pounds on the drive axle, and 34,000 pounds on the tandem axles.
Makes sense. In the news context would be easier for the reader to grasp the amount if it was in liters or what ever the equivalent freedom units are.
It says 50,000 cans. How much more freedom can you get than cans of cheap, shitty American beer?
How much is that in terms of algae filled reflecting pools?
