Oh yeah you can see the different textures on a CD that has written data, but it's likely they're using them as mirrors and I think that's clever

It's impossible to use CDs as mirrors. This is due to bright lasers used for burning. Wait – actually it can be done, but only with pressed CDs, not CD-Rs.

Does the laser burn your eyes 🤣. Im recalling my experience with CDs from decades ago (both from CDs from the era now and me interacting with CDs back then)

It's possible that the wavelength used to burn it was invisible to your eyes, but that's not universally the case. Please be careful when handling CDs.

That's why I scratch CDs to neutralize them
