The best one is the one you played during your formative years and have the most nostalgia for. The worst one depends on if you want to form your own opinion or just listen to youtube essayists. If it's the essayists, then two is the worst because it different and different bad, or possibly eight because again, different therefore bad.
The real answer? The terrible gatcha mobile game auto battler that was one the most heavily pay to win mobile games ever made.
My favorite is 7 though and I didn't get to play that until I was in my late 20s
You're right, I really love FF6 : formative years, didnt quite read perfectly english then, too - so kind of "exotic".
The soundtrack hits different, I fantasized being that loner hero in the schoolyard, with the track of the open world playing in my mind.
Also I really love the artwork in the booklet (or was it?) from Yoshitaka Amano, it has a light and flowy touch to it. Ive recently learned that he worked on Vampire Hunter D, which was a show I shared watching with my older sister!
But like you said, nostalgia.
Oh yeah, All The Bravest, I forgot all about that.
There was also that FFVII mobile battle royale that shut down pretty quickly.
If you open this up to mobile games it's practically cheating tho...

FF 2 is OK, but it is what ended up giving us the Saga series so I can never hate on it.
