I personally would wait for the improved controls in the remaster, but it’s free so there’s no reason not to try and see if it feels good or not.
If you start playing now you’ll have lots of time to play the existing base plus expansions. Blood and Wine took about as long as the base game for me.
It’s a long game. Very good story and characters, but long.
Also, don’t be an idiot like me: I got the bad ending by choosing funny options not knowing it affected specific outcomes and later events. No spoilers, but you don’t want that. I suggest playing in character (however you feel your Geralt should be) and sticking with it.
