I saw a video on this yesterday.
Yes, it's shitty and I'd be mortified if I was involved in this in any way, but I think it was a very unfortunate misunderstanding.
I think the other comment is on the right track. The most likely scenario is that the server typed in a note as to who the dessert was for, the plate decorator took it as what to write on the plate, and the expo just ran the food out to the table without knowing anything about what's going on.
Common sense should probably make you question if Wheelchair should really be on the plate like that, but maybe it isn't uncommon for people to request light hearted jokes on these kinds of things. I know I could get away with doing something like that for one of my friends and it being appreciated as a good natured joke, but those are people I know well, not complete strangers.
The restaurant has since acknowledged and apologized for the mistake.
Completely unacceptable to write wheelchair on that. It should have read hot wheels. That would be flattering.
Yeah, I'd have definitely sought a verbal confirmation on that one before sending it out.
Edit: Ya know what, I'd want this one in writing.
