Having the kid is voluntary.

Once you have one, rasing it is not.

why do the consequences for someone else's voluntary decision warrant others being forced to accomodate it or change their plans?

Ah. In this case your issue is with the employer not being able to plan or be flexible, not the person rasing the kid.
