Fediverse vs Disinformation

2265 readers
54 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

I live in a shed and won't be able to afford a HEPA filter anytime soon. Also, I couldn't really bring the donkeys and horse into my one room house in case of smoke.

In times of polycrisis many different factors make life quality worse and this is just one more. If you are wealthy and live in a well-supplied region you can tech up to maintain your comforts - and to be honest, I probably still could do that to a point if I made it my priority to save myself from all the shit currently hitting the fan. Could squeeze some more comfy years out of it before more shit will inevitably hit the fan. I don't see the point though. We humans sit in this shit together - hiding behind more walls while the global South and poor people in general are left out to die? No, it's time to find ways to live and cooperate better. I will hold out here for as long as I can and try to keep it small and simple. To see any improvement we have to tech down, and by doing it gradually now we might avoid having it forced upon us in the future.

won’t be able to afford a HEPA filter anytime soon.

We are talking a box fan, some tape and a HEPA air filter. It will meaningfully improve the quality of your life! It does not have to be expensive.

I understand what you are saying though, shit is hard and you are just surviving, I didn't mean to make you feel unheard about how difficult things are.

I used this for the crazy wildfires we had a few years back in the Pacific Northwest. I'm one of the sensitive groups so it was really hurting me. Worked pretty well, highly recommend.
