I have no idea who any of these people are and whatever this is about and I'm not sure if I even want to know.
Fediverse drama! Even if there is a kernel of truth behind it, the drama around it is always dumber than it should be. IMO a symptom of people wanting control over things as consumers that they simply don’t and never will if they remain consumers. A bit of an insidious trap the Fedi lays for people.
I'm not sure I really understand you.
One of the foundational concepts of opensource software, self hosting, and federated software, is that users have more equity and agency than they would if they were users or "consumers" on a corporate platform.
If you don't want to support the behavior of a developer, you don't have to.
That said, I'm aware that my instance is running piefed, which is at the centre of this drama.
I suspect they mean that you can run your own instance, but in practice most users fall for the 'trap' of using someone else's instance where they have no control over what happens to their accounts and what they post.
I don't think it's that big of a deal and thay you're absolutely right that you don't have to support a developer or that you can hop to another instance, giving users more equity and agency.
Even if you run your own instance, your ability to access most communities is still at the whims of the dictators who run a few large instances.
Yea, this.
I’d say that whether it’s a big deal is up to what people expect and want. The issue I was citing is that Fedi drama often involves, IMO, a disconnect between what the Fedi offers and what people expect.
That's probably the post where the drama has happened.

The fediverse seems to have a real penchant for petty drama.
I'm not saying that's what this is, just that when there's a spat it tends to draw everyone in.
You probably don't want to know
Both party's have miss-stepped, Rimu seems to be trying to put across his side of the story. At least one of the comments removed was a real rant towards Rimu on his server, he removed it.
As someone that hasn't been around here for a few months, I'm just going to guess that it's these freeze peach people who feel entitled to say whatever they want wherever they want, and like the rules don't apply to them.
They were complaining about the Blahaj admin a lot as well before because she's hardcore with moderation just like the instance says on the tin. And the neckbeard edgelords that grew up using 4chan and think it's "early internet", always get up in arms when moderators and admins try to create spaces for like-minded people without needing to 'debate' bigots, just like they did on the actual early internet on forum sites.
This doesn't excite me enough to do my homework particularly but I'm gonna guess there's more to this than "wah the evil blue haired SJW with nose rings is censoring us with the woke agenda".
